HCM City delays tramcar tour project
VietNamNet Bridge – The city has decided not to pilot a tram tour in the city center in July because the scheme submitted by the Department of Transport is not feasible, according to HCM City authorities at a meeting on July 15.
A tramcar for tourists in Hanoi
The city has asked the Tourism Department to coordinate with Saigontourist to design the tramcar routes for tourists and the Department of Transport to work on the bus tramcar routes. The two plans must be submitted to the municipal People’s Committee in early August.
Previously, the Department of Transport developed the tramcar route for tourists in the city center, which was expected to commence in early June 2015.
Under this scheme, there would be 10 12-seat trams running through tourist destinations in the city hub to serve tourists. Apart from two tramcar stations built at 23/9 Park and the Saigon Zoo, the tramcar route would have 27 stops.
The ticket for a tour around the center would be VND 10,000/person. The route would operate from 8am to 6pm daily, with one trip every 10 minutes.
Tickets would be sold at the 23/9 park, the Saigon Zoo and on the trams. Also, tickets would be distributed to tourism companies to sell to tourists.
Holiday to Vietnam in early June 2015, HCM City Chairman Le Hoang Quan agreed to pilot the model in seven days for free before making the final decision on the route. However, the plan was not implemented due to several reasons. At the meeting on July 15, the People’s Committee said the Department of Transport’s plan was not feasible.
